Lucas, Leonard Christopher

 

Born 29th October 1889 Birches Bay Tasmania the son of Daniel Richard and Mary Elizabeth Lucas (nee Richardson) a postal motor driver he embarked Melbourne 29th March 1916 on board “RMS Orontes” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

 

He served in the Garrison Artillery in Hobart and was appointed Lance Corporal on the 22nd August 1916.

 

He was serving with the 52nd Battalion when he was killed in action 4th September 1916 in France (previously reported missing) and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France 

 

His brother Lieutenant Charles Daniel Lucas was killed in action 25th July 1916 at Pozieres and is commemorated in the Pozieres British Cemetery Ovillers-La Boisselle
