MacCarthy Henry Harold

 

He was born 26th April 1895 Fingal Tasmania Harold Irving and Margaret MacCarthy (nee Reed) who departed Sydney 22nd December 1914 on board “HMAT Forty-One” with the 6th Light Horse Regiment.

He was hit by a shell and died instantly 23rd July 1916 at Pozieres and is commemorated in the Pozieres British Cemetery Ovillers-La Boisselle, France.

Notification has been received by Mr. H. MacCarthy of The Hermitage, Bothwell that his only son, Lieutenant Henry Harold MacCarthy has been killed at Pozieres. Lieutenant MacCarthy first joined the 6th Light Horse as a trooper and was wounded at Gallipoli. He was 20 years of age. He was subsequently transferred to the artillery, and received his commission. Mrs. and Mrs MacCarthy are both engaged in war work in England.
