Mackenzie Roderick Sheridan
Mapping our Anzacs Born 10th January 1899 Calcutta India the son of Herbert Edward and Eva Helen Mackenzie (nee Schumacker) an agricultural student living at Deloraine Tasmania he embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 4th October 1917 at Brookseinde Ridge Belgium and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium Military Medal
'On the 7th/8th and 9th June, 1917, during operations
south east of Messines, this man, as a Company runner
performed invaluable work in carrying important
despatches from the advanced troops to his Headquarters,
passing on many occasions through extremely heavy
artillery fire. In addition he carried water to his
comrades in forward positions and right throughout
displayed the greatest coolness, courage and
resource.'
