Markham Chester Edwin

 

 

Born 25th May 1892 Launceston Tasmania to Thomas George and Frances Elizabeth Markham (nee Bessell) a tinsmith who departed Sydney 3rd May 1916 on board “HMAT Clan McGillivray” with the 13th Infantry Battalion.

He was a stretcher bearer at Bullecourt where he was struck by a piece of shell, later died 11th April 1917 and was buried where he fell.  He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
