Marshall Roger

Born Bicheno Tasmania the son of Roger Marshall, a farmer he died at the Royal Hobart Hospital 5th May 1916 from pneumonia and was buried in the Tasmania (Hobart) Garden of Remembrance, Cornelian Bay Tasmania.

Our Bicheno coricspondent writes:

"Quite a gloom was cast over the district when it became known that Acting-Corporal R.T. Marshall, the only son of Mr. Roger Marshall of Glen Albyn, had succumbed to pneumonia, It is only a few weeks ago, on the eve of his leaving for Claremont camp that some of his church-going friends presented him with a wristlet watch in recognition of the good work that he had done for the Bicheno church. The deceased took a keen interest in cricket, and was elected secretary of the Bicheno Cricket Club when it first started some 21 years ago, and had held the position ever since. He was a good, all-round athlete, and always played the game, he was a member of the Swansea Rifle Club, and last year made the top score in the annual musketry competition against 70 odd members. A large number of friends gathered at the Bicheno church, where a funeral service was held. The Rev. H. Pinter gave a lengthy address, in which he pointed out what a help the late Mr. Marshall had been to him and the good work he had done for the past twelve years by presiding at the organ in both the English and Presbyterian services. Much sympathy is felt tor his parents and relatives.
