Martin, Walter Patrick

 

Born 18th September 1894 New Norfolk Tasmania to Samuel George and Margaret Frances Martin (nee Gaul) a labourer who departed Hobart 8th August 1916 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 12th Infantry Battalion

He was wounded in the knee by machine gun fire at Bourcies 6th April 1917 and was trying to get back to his own lines when he was fatally hit in the head by a sniper.  Like other soldiers with no known grave he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
