Portrait of Lieutenant Harry Edward Moncrieff Massey of the 12th Battalion, AIF. Later promoted to Captain and a member of the 52nd Battalion, he was killed in action on 3 September 1916

 

Mrs. H. M. Massey late of Queenstown has received official notification that her son. Capt. H. E. M. Massey reported missing on September 3, 1916, is now officially reported killed, in action. Capt. Massey was one of the first officers to enlist on the West Coast, and was at the landing at Gallipoli, wounded five days later, and was there till the evacuation. On the reorganisation of units in Egypt ho was transferred to another battalion as Captain. He saw service in the Canal region and in France, the final action being at Moquet Farm. He was the son of the late Mr and Mrs. Massey, of Quecnstown.
