Mathews, Chester

 

 

Born Brighton Junction the son of Charles Henry and Catherine Mathews (nee Johnston) a 24 year old labourer he embarked with the 10th Machine Gun Company later transferring to the 40th Battalion.

 

He died 26th October 1918 at the 3rd Australian General Hospital from influenza/pneumonia and was buried in the Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension France.  He is also commemorated in the St Mary's Anglican Churchyard, Pontville
