Maxwell, David Lewin

 

Born 19th June 1898 Kindred Tasmania the son of John and Emily Henrietta Maxwell (nee Granger) a farmer he embarked Melbourne 27th October 1915 on board “HMAT Ulysses” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. 

He was killed in action 5th May 1917 at Bullecourt France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux

Rev. H. C. Trebilco was yesterday allotted the painful task of informing Mr and Mrs. Maxwell Ulverstone that their son, Pte David Lewin Maxwell, had been killed in action in France between the 5th and 8th May.

Pte. Maxwell enlisted when 17 years and two months old and sailed from Tasmania on September 27, 1915. He was in Egypt for a few months and was drafted to France. He was wounded in July, 1916 being in hospital a short time. After recovering, he was for a time garrisoned in Belgium and lately went back to the trenches.
