If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of hosting this website to keep it alive would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou from Gravesites of Tasmania in advance.

Maynard, Edward Lewis

Born Whitemark Flinders Island son of  Alicia Emma Maynard, who was a widow before he left for Gallipoli and he had one brother he embarked Melbourne 4th June 1915 on board “HMAT Ajana” with the 15th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 8th August 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial Gallipoli Turkey.

The sad news reached us by radio, says our Whitemark correspondent, that one of our local boys, Louis Maynard was killed in action on the 8th ult. He has only been away from the island four months and it was not until the news of his death reached here that he was known to have got to the fighting area. His mother, brothers, and sisters live at Whitemark and all classes join in sympathy with them. A younger brother, Leo, is on his way to the front; also a cousin.
