Mayne William Henry
He was born Launceston Tasmania a plumber who departed Sydney 11th February 1915 on board “HMAT Seang Bee” with the 13th Infantry Battalion. Sgt Mayne was serving with the 45th Battalion when he was killed 7th June 1917 by a bullet to the chest at Messines and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. The sad news has been conveyed to Mr. and Mrs J Mayne, of 185 York Street, Launceston that their son, Sergt. W. H. Mayne had been killed in action in France. The late sergeant enlisted early in the war, having fought through Gallipoli and France. He was recently promoted to sergeant. He was 21 years of age. The Examiner 5th July 1917
