Profound regret was expressed at Scottsdale when the distressing news was circulated that Lieutenant H. W. McBean son of Mr and Mrs J A McBean of North Scottsdale had been killed in action on May 9th. The late soldier was widely known and very popular. He was a good athlete and prominent footballer and prior to enlisting took a leading part in the militia. For some time he occupied the position of teller at the National Bank and there, as everywhere else, gained the esteem and respect of all with whom he came into contact. Lt McBean was about 25 years of age and enlisted over two years ago. He was born at Jetsonville and lived in the district practically all his life. Another brother Stanley is on active service.
