WW1
McMillan, Alexander Rankin
He was born 3rd May 1890 St Mary’s Tasmania to Daniel and Florence McMillan (nee Lawrence) a butcher who embarked Melbourne 5th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 19th August 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. On Thursday word was received by Nurse P Adams of Blackwall West Tamar to the effect that her son, A. R. McMillan had been killed in action between August 1l and 22, but the cable did not say where. Only a few weeks ago his mother received a cheery letter from France saying he had been promoted to I.ance-Corporal and that he would soon be home again. He was at Mr. E. A. Fawkner's, Quadrant prior to enlisting on August 2, 1915. The sad news was conveyed by the Rev. A. C. Sanderson (Beaconsfield). Deceased was highly respected, and was a general favourite. The Examiner 23rd September 1916
