Studio portrait of 4540 Private (Pte) Clarence William Mears, 14th Reinforcements, 12th Battalion, of Granton, Tas. Pte Mears enlisted on 25 October 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Warilda on 8 February 1916. On 15 February 1917 he died of wounds at Gueudecourt in France. His brother 466 Pte Arthur Albert Mears MM, 12th Battalion, was wounded in France and subsequently died of disease in England on 7 March 1919
