Medcraft, Oscar William
Born 4th May 1896 Barrington Tasmania the son of William Walter and Mosella Matilda Medcraft (nee Costello) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 30th September 1916 on board “HMAT Suffolk” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He was killed in action 6th April 1917 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France Residents of Lower Barrington sympathise greatly with the parents of the three local lads-Privates J. and P. Sullivan and Oscar Medcraft who have lately laid down their lives for the Empire. It is only about eight months since the Sullivan brothers were farewelled from the district. Private Medcraft enlisted and reached Claremont; but, not having his parents consent, and being under age, he was sent back. His evident anxiety at last induced his parents to allow him to go.
