Moore, Frederick William

 

He was born Gillingham England the son of Hannah Marion Stocks of Kingston Magna Gillingham Dorset England an orchardist living at Kettering and who enlisted Brighton Tasmania he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. 

He died 3rd May 1915 at the Bombay General Hospital from wounds received on the Gallipoli Peninsula and was buried in the Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt, North Africa. 

Private F. W. Moore, recently reported as killed in action at the Dardanelles was only 23 years of age and a native of Kingston Magna, in Dorset. Two of his brothers were in the Dorset Regiment and have been killed in the fighting in France in an engagement where one battalion of the Dorsets were nearly wiped out. Private Moore had been living at Kettering for a couple of years and was one of the first to volunteer from the Channel district.
