Morris, Joseph Clarence

 

Born 1895 Emu Bay Tasmania the son of Robert and Fanny Morris (nee Hind) a baker he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.  He arrived Gallipoli 2nd March 1915.  In October he became ill and was transferred to Malta and admitted to St. George Hospital with influenza.  He was promoted to Corporal 26th February 1916 and on the 20th May 1916 to Sergeant.  He proceeded to Alexandria in June 1916 and disembarked in Marseilles on the 12th June 1916.

Sgt Morris was serving with the 52nd Battalion when he was killed in action 3rd September 1916 at Moquet Farm and is commemorated in the Serre Road Cemetery No 1, France.
