Morton Vincent Edward
Studio portrait of 3059 Private (Pte) Vincent Edward Morton, 10th Reinforcements, 7th Battalion, of Boat Harbour, Tasmania. Pte Morton enlisted on 5 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Osterley on 29 September 1915. He was killed in action on 19 July 1916 in France, whilst serving with the 60th Battalion. The Rev T J O’Donnell, parish priest, had the unpleasant duty of conveying to Mrs C Morton the sad news that her son, Private V E Morton had been killed in action in July 1916 in the memorable battle of Moquet Farm, France. Pte Morton enlisted in Victoria nearly three years ago and was reported missing on the 19th July 1916. After fourteen months painful suspense the sad intelligence came through last week. Sympathy goes out to Mrs Morton and family in the loss they and the army have sustained. The Weekly Courier 6th September 1917
