Mundy Alfred Walpole

 

 

He was born Leytonstone, Essex, England the son of Ethel and Alfred Jones Mundy (parents living at Spreyton) a miner living and working at Queenstown he embarked Hobart Tasmania 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

 

He was wounded at Gallipoli landing, returned and served till evacuation. Went to France with first contingent and never had leave to come home though so near.  He was killed in action 23rd July 1916 at Pozieres and is commemorated on the Pozieres British Cemetery (Special Memorial No. 15), Ovillers-La-Boisselle, France
