Murfett Reginald David
Born 18th December 1896 Longford Tasmania to David and Mary Murfett (nee Murfett) he was a carpenter and embarked Melbourne 5th January 1916 on “HMAT Afric” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He had been reported missing in action which was later changed to Killed in Action 14th November 1916. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France YOLLA. Mrs D..Murfctt of Yolla, has just had a letter from her son Reginald now in France dated April 1. He left Heliopolis at 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Match 21st and had a seven hours' ride in a train, then boarded a transport and arrived at Marseilles on the Sunday night; they had a good reception. After arriving at Marseilles they had a 54 hours' ride in a train. He enjoyed the trip very much, the scenery was lovely, he said, and it was nice to see green grass and white people after the desert of Egypt. “Reg” has been very fortunate in not having had any sickness since leaving Tasmania, not even seasickness North Western Advocate 22nd May 1916 MURFETT Killed in action in France on 14th November, 1916, Pte.
