Nilsen, John Howard

Born 4^th July 1897 Beaconsfield Tasmania to Andreas and Annie Nilsen (nee Cole) an apprentice boilermaker who departed Melbourne 1^st August 1916 on board “HMAT Orsova” with the 24 HB [Howitzer Brigade].

Gunner Nilsen was serving with the 49th Battery 13th Brigade Australian Field Artillery when he died 10^th August 1917 from wounds received in the Somme Offensive and was buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery, France.
