Nilsen, John Howard

 

Born 4th July 1897 Beaconsfield Tasmania to Andreas and Annie Nilsen (nee Cole) an apprentice boilermaker who departed Melbourne 1st August 1916 on board “HMAT Orsova” with the 24 HB [Howitzer Brigade].

Gunner Nilsen was serving with the 49th Battery 13th Brigade Australian Field Artillery when he died 10th August 1917 from wounds received in the Somme Offensive and was buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery, France.
