Norman Sydney Herbert
Born 1863 Bishopbourne Tasmania to James Marsh and Elizabeth Noman (nee Flexman) a sheep farmer he embarked Melbourne 9th November 1917 on board “HMAT Port Sydney” with the Field Artillery Brigade. He had served in the Boer War with the 2nd Imperial Bushmen Contingent rising to the rank of Corporal and was one of six Tasmanians mentioned for bravery and distinguished conduct and received a silver mounted pipe with the Queen’s arms on it at the end of the war. He died 20th October 1918 at the Royal Herbert Hospital Woolwich of pneumonia and was buried in the Brookwood Military Cemetery, United Kingdom.
