NICHOLSON, FRED GEEVES

Born 1^st November 1894 Glebe Tasmania to Frederick William and Martha Nicholson (nee Geeves) an orchardist he embarked Melbourne 2^nd February 1915 on board “HMAT Clan McGillivray” with the 12^th Infantry Battalion.

Cpl Nicholson was killed in action 11^th December 1916 at Flers France and is commemorated in the Bulls Road Cemetery, Flers, France.

News has been received from headquarters that Corporal Fred Geeves Nicholson was killed in action on December 11 on the Western front. Corporal Nicholson volunteered for active   service in 1914, joined the infantry corps of the 12th Battalion, and proceeded with the second reinforcements at the end of January, 1915, to Egypt.

He was on the Gallipoli Peninsula for about five months, when he was invalided to Malta through sickness, and from there to England. On the voyage enteric fever developed, and he was sent to the Third London General Hospital, Wandsworth.

Since last June he had been serving with his battalion in France and Belgium. Corporal Nicholson was the son of Mr. F. W. Nicholson, of Hobart, and grandson of Mr. Osborne Geeves, of Geeveston.
