If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of hosting this website to keep it alive would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou from Gravesites of Tasmania in advance.

O'Connor, Roy Roderick

The gravestone in this photograph is that of Private Roy Roderick O'Connor. O'Connor enlisted in the Australian Army on the 27th of January 1915 at 19 years of age. After a short period of time spent in Gallipoli and recovering from tonsillitis in England, Roderick disembarked at Marseilles in April 1916 as part of the 12th Battalion. Roderick was wounded in action on the 25th of July 1916 and later died from his wounds on the 27th of July.

Mr D O’Connor of Sanden Street Launceston was on Monday night advised by the Defence Department of the death from wounds of his son Signaller R R O’Conner of the 12th Battalion.  The young soldier was one of the 22 employees of the “Examiner” and the “Courier” who have enlisted for service with the expeditionary forces.
