Mr. and Mrs. James O'Rourke of Yarlington Colebrook received information from No. 307, H. Cowen, 12th Battalion, concerning their son, Private E. F. O'Rourke, 12th. Battalion, who was reported as killed in action on the 4th October, 1917, as follows: - "O'Rourke and I were in the main platoon and he went into the Polygon Wood stunt and did not come out. I cannot give any direct reference, but know it to be a fact, as being in the same platoon it was spoken of at the time that he was killed in the hop over and was buried where he fell. We had l4 killed altogether then, and all were buried by parties who went up for that purpose."The Mercury 12th September 1918
