Orr William Robert

Born 1897 Lilydale Tasmania the son of William and Elizabeth Orr (nee Irving) died 15th February 1916 as a result of a railway accident as he was returning to Claremont Camp after his final leave before embarkation.

He is commemorated in the Tasmania (Hobart) Garden of Remembrance at Cornelian Bay Cemetery

SOLDIER VICTIM

Word was received yesterday to the effect that the name of the soldier killed in the railway accident on Tuesday is Gunner William Robert Orr, reported in the first instance as Private Hall. Gunner Orr, 19 years of age, was the son of the late William Orr, of Underwood, where he was formerly occupied looking after his mother's farm. The deceased was on his way back to Claremont camp from final leave. The military authorities wished to tender the young soldier a military funeral, but at the request of the relatives the funeral will be of a private character. A brother of the deceased is Sergeant-Major Orr of Launceston, and an elder brother was killed in the South African war. The other of the two passengers who lost their lives turns out to be Jas. Quinn, of Bradshaws Creek, who was on his way to Claremont camp.
