Owen, Archie Walter

 

Born 1st May 1897 Launceston Tasmania to Harry Robert and Sarah Owen (nee Row) an orchardist who departed Melbourne 25th October 1916 on board “HMAT Ulysses” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. 

On the 23rd July 1917 he was wounded in action with wounds to the abdomen, head and a fractured thigh and admitted to the 3rd Australian Field Ambulance.  He was transferred to the 1st. Australian Casualty Clearing Station but died the same day.

He was buried in the Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France. 

His brother Pte Herbert Edward Roy Owen (No 6871) was killed in action 14th March 1918 in Belgium and is commemorated in the Spoilbank Cemetery, Belgium.
