Page, Gladstone Ryan

 

A pastoralist from Oatlands Tasmania Embarked Melbourne 16th November 1915 on board “HMAT Port Macquarie” with the 2nd Division Ammunition Column

 He was killed in action 7th August 1916 and was buried in the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boiselle, France.

Gunner Gladstone Ryan Page familiarly known as ‘Tim’ who was serving with the 106th Howitzer Battery in France has been killed, a cable notifying the fact having been received by relatives in Tamania.  He was a son of the late Mr Algernon Page of Anstey Barton Oatlands.  After his father’s death he was a student at the Canterbury Agricultural College New Zealand and, having obtained his diploma tbere he returned to Tasmania  and engaged in sheep farming with his brothers at Anstey Barton.  Responding to the call of duty, he and his brother Ivo joined the Australian Imperial Forces, and after seeing service in Egypt proceeded to France. Gunner Pago was liked by all that knew him.  He followed the Midland hounds and took a leading part in all sports in his district
