Last week the relatives of Private Jack Parker of Avoca received the sad news through the Defence Department that he had been killed in action in France on August 10. The young soldier was very popular at Avoca and previous to enlistment he was employed in Messrs C R Foster and Co’s store. He was one of the first to leave Avoca for active service and went through the Gallipoli campaign without being wounded. After the evacuation of the Peninsula Private Parker had furlough in England from whence he joined the Anzacs in France. Much sympathy is felt for his aged father and relatives The Weekly Courier 28th September 1916
