TASMANIAN AVIATOR KILLED. 'Mr Erskine J. Parker, St. John Street, Launceston yesterday received the following cablegram from the Secretary, War Office. London: 'Deeply regret to have to inform you that Basra (Mesopotamia) reports that Captain C. A. Parker, M.C., Royal Flying Corps. Special Reserve, was killed whilst flying on February 19. The Army Council express their sympathy. The foregoing message refers to the only son of Mr and Mrs Erskine Parker, who left Launceston ten years ago and was in Queensland until he enlisted in August, 1914, for war service. He left Australia, with the 6th Light Horse and served for thirteen weeks at Gallipoli, where he was wounded and sent to England. There he joined the Royal Field Artillery, and obtained a commission, and afterwards volunteered for the Flying Corps attached to the R.F.A. Deceased was awarded the Military Cross for service in France, and was afterwards promoted to the rank of Captain and given a bar to his M.C. He was sent to Mesopotamia in November. Much regret and sympathy with the gallant Captain's family were expressed in the city when the news of his death became known. Daily Telegraph 26th February 1918
