Pinner Percy
Born 17th September 1892 Scottsdale Tasmania to David and Janet Pinner (nee Targett) a farm labourer who departed Hobart 8th August 1916 on board ‘HMAT Ballarat” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action at La Barque France 27th February 1917 and is commemorated in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France. In 1915 two Pinner brothers planted two pine trees on the hill at Deddington before they went off to war, one tree survived and one brother survived. Roy, the brother who returned to Tasmania affixed a plaque in memory of Percy to the surviving tree and the people of Deddington and the surrounding areas now hold their Anzac Day Service beneath this pine tree.
