Rathbone, Percy Rigaud
Born 1897 Port Augusta South Australia the son of Frank Broomfield and Isabella Rathbone (nee Rigaud) an orchardist he embarked Melbourne 4th August 1917 on board “HMAT Themistocles” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He was serving with the 40th Infantry Battalion when he received gunshot wounds to both legs which unfortunately led to a double amputation and he died 14th April 1918 in the 53rd General Hospital France. He is commemorated in the Wimereux Communal Cemetery, Wimereux, Nord Pas de Calais, France
His brother Pte Hubert Rigaud Rathbone died 10th October 1915 at Malta from enteric fever and is commemorated in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Tal-Pieta, Malta RATHBONE. -On 14th inst, somewhere in France, of wounds, Private Percy Rigaud Rathbone, 40th Battalion, late of 12th Battalion, dearly beloved youngest son of Frank and Isabella Rathbone, of Mt. Nassau, Granton, in his 21st year. "Of whom all our thoughts are of pure gold, without alloy."
