Reeve, Lawson Harford
Born 23rd March 1888 Franklin Tasmania to Clement and Elizabeth Sarah Reeve (nee Norris) an orchardist he departed Melbourne 24th November 1915 on board “HMAT Orontes” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 23rd June 1916 in France and is commemorated in the Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France. Another Huon volunteer has laid down his life for his country somewhere in France. Lawson Reeve was one of those who answered the appeal of the ex premier (Mr Earle) and Mr Ewing at Dover when the gravity of the situation prompted the two Parliamentary leaders to join forces in a recruiting campaign and after a brief training he quickly became efficient and was sent on active service. He was a fine manly fellow and much esteemed by all who knew him A memorial service was held in the Methodist church Franklin, of which the young soldier was a member on Sunday last the church being crowded and an impressive address was given by the reverend T Riding. The greatest sympathy is felt for his parents and family in their sorrow. The Weekly Courier 20th July 1916
