Lieutenant Reid was serving with the 54th Battalion when he died 24th April 1918 at the 8th General Hospital France from gas poisoning and was buried in the St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.
News was received at Hobart on Saturday that Lieut. Frank Reid had died from effects of gas at the front. Lieut. Reid who was secretary of the Hobart Gas Company and a son of Mr. Alex Reid (formerly Under-Treasurer) left Hobart in the early stages of the war with the pay unit. Leaving that branch of the service the deceased officer obtained his commission. Last week his brother Mr. E. A Rcid received a cable to the effect that Lieut. Reid had been gassed, but was progressing favourably and the sad news of his decease came rather as a shock to his relatives and friends of whom he had a great number in Tasmania.
