Riseley, John Charles Ernest
Born 8th September 1881 Shipwrights Point Tasmania to John William and Mary Jane Riseley (nee Murrell) and married to Alice May McNally, a samiller who departed Melbourne 24th November 1915 on board “RMS Orontes” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. Lance Corporal Riseley died 13th April 1917 from multiple bomb wounds and was buried in the Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Lance Corporal, 47th Australian Infantry, No. 4019. Died 13/4/1917. John Risley was wounded by a bomb and later died and was buried in Bullecourt, France. John was thought to be working at the local sawmill before his call to arms, he enlisted in Scottsdale. Lance Corporal Risley was in a fatigue party, who were burning rubbish in a shell hole to warm themselves, which evidently proved to be on top of an unexploded bomb, the heat caused it to explode and John was seriously wounded about the body. He was placed on a stretcher and taken to the dressing station, he died of multiple bomb wounds 3 to 4 days after admission. He was married to Alice May (nee McNally) Ledgerwood Tree inscription
