Robertson, George Theodore
Born 1896 Launceston Tasmania the son of George and Edith Robertson (nee Thurstan) a clerk he embarked Brisbane 5th October 1915 on board “HMAT Warilda” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He served in the 92nd Infantry as a Lieutenant in the machine gun section. On arrival in France he was appointed corporal 4th March 1916 and again to sergeant on the 1st April 1916. He was killed in action 29th July 1916 at Pozieres and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France. News was received last week from the Defence Department by the Rev J W Grove that Sergeant George Theo Robertson of Trevallyn had been killed in action in France on July 29th. The late Sergeant Robertson who was about 20 years of age was a member of Patterson St Methodist church. Deceased was educated at the Launceston High School under Major R E Smith and was at school with many of the lads who have recently fallen in the field in France. At the time of his enlistment he was employed by the Tasmanian Permanent Executors and Trustees Association Limited. The Weekly Courier 14th September 1916
