Roughley, Charles William
Born Railton Tasmania to Henry Asher and Jane Roughley and married Emma Jane Beckett Edwards, a labourer who embarked Melbourne 24th August 1916 on board “HMAT Botanist” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He died 9th June 1918 from wounds received in the field and was buried in the Ebblinghem Military Cemetery, France. Two brothers also died in action, see Roughley, George Asher and Roughley, James Thomas. The Rev. G. Rowe yesterday had the duty of conveying to Mrs. Roughly, of East Devonport, the news that her husband, Pte. Chas W. Roughley died of gunshot wounds in the abdomen, thigh, arm and knee in the 3rd Casualty clearing Station on June 9. Pte Roughley, who enlisted at the start of the war wrote home only a few days ago stating that he was well, and looking forward to his home-coming. There is a family of five children.
