Saunders James Leslie

Born Bracknell Tasmania to John and Caroline Saunders (nee Jones) enlisted Queensland, a labourer who embarked Brisbane 24^th September 1914 on board “HMAT Omrah” with the 9^th Infantry Battalion and the rank of Corporal.

Company Sergeant Major Saunders was killed in action 22^nd August 1916 at Moquet Farm and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

In his will he asked his mother to erect a monument in memory of his brother Colin (No 977) who was killed in action 25^th April 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
