WW1
Scoble, Roy William
Born 20th November 1895 Beaconsfield Tasmania to William Henry and Margaret Louisa Scoble (nee Rasmussen) he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. Sergeant Scoble was killed in action 2nd September 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. Mrs Scoble of Beaconsfield has received the following letter from Chaplain D. B. Blackwood in France:- "I write to extend to you my very sincere sympathy in the sad loss of your splendid son Sergeant Roy Scoble, in the great action of our brigade early this month. He played his part splendidly. You may well be proud of such a son. He was a great favourite amongst officers and men. Of course, I often saw him and spoke to him. He used to help with our choir singing in Egypt. I was handed his wallet, taken from him by a Canadian chaplain, and given to me, so I believe he was duly buried on the battlefield by this chaplain. I gave it to the authorities to be sent to you in due course." Examiner Launceston 25th November 1916
