Shea, Hilton
Born 13th October 1895 Beaconsfield Tasmania the son of John Arthur and Alice Shea (nee Aitken) a labourer he embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He served at Gallipoli, Egypt and France. He was killed in action 26th March 1917 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Villers-Bretonneux Area, France. The Rev. R. Weld Thomas of Latrobe on Tuesday received a telegram from the Defence Department asking him to convey to the widowed mother of Private Hilton Shea the news that her son had been killed in action on March 26. Private Shea was one of the first to enlist for active service from the Thirlstane district and was through the Gallipoli campaign being reported ill on two or three occasions. General sympathy is expressed with the family, who, only on the same day as the wire arrived announcing his death, had received letters saying that he was quite well.
