Shepherd, James David
Born 1888 Port Esperance Tasmania the son of James William and Mary Shepherd (nee Sainty) a fisherman from Beauty Point he embarked Hobart on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 15th April 1917 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. The Rev. J. Harrison received word on Sunday that Private James David Shepherd, of Beauty Point, had been killed in action on April 15 in France. The late private left with the 40th Battalion, and joined the l2th Battalion in France.
