Sloane, Alexander Gordon

Born 1892 Latrobe Tasmania to Alexander and Clara Sloane (nee Allen) a farmer he departed Hobart 13^th December 1915 on board “HMAT Ajana” with the 26^th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 25^th July 1916 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Private Gordon A Sloane of Kindred who was killed in action in France was the eldest son of Mr A Sloane Government road overseer and grandson of the late Mr C Allen of Westbury. He was a prominent footballer and played with the Ulverstone Club. He was a crack rifle shot and a strong athlete.
