Sloane, Alexander Gordon
Born 1892 Latrobe Tasmania to Alexander and Clara Sloane (nee Allen) a farmer he departed Hobart 13th December 1915 on board “HMAT Ajana” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 25th July 1916 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. Private Gordon A Sloane of Kindred who was killed in action in France was the eldest son of Mr A Sloane Government road overseer and grandson of the late Mr C Allen of Westbury. He was a prominent footballer and played with the Ulverstone Club. He was a crack rifle shot and a strong athlete. The Weekly Courier 31st August 1916
