Smith Tasman
Born 1892 Port Frederick Tasmania to Henry Joseph and Sarah Caroline Smith (nee Braxton) a labourer Who embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He died of wounds received at Gallipoli and was buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery Private T Smith who is reported as having died of wounds was the 3rd son of Mrs H Smith of East Devonport and was about 25 years of age. He joined the 1st Contingent and left Devonport in August being attached to the 12th Battalion. For a number of years he was a private in a volunteer company at Devonport and was a prominent footballer. He was greatly esteemed in his native town. The Weekly Courier 13th May 1914
