Smith, Eric

Born Richmond Tasmania the son of Samuel and Bridget Smith (nee Cash) a farm labourer he embarked Hobart 1^st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40^th Infantry Battalion.

He was serving with the 51^st Battalion when he was killed in action 12^th October 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Flanders, Belgium

Three other brothers enlisted, two were killed in action and the eldest brother who served in the Camel Corps returned to Australia.
