Smith, Eric

 

 

 

Born Richmond Tasmania the son of Samuel and Bridget Smith (nee Cash) a farm labourer he embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.

 

He was serving with the 51st Battalion when he was killed in action 12th October 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Flanders, Belgium

 

Three other brothers enlisted, two were killed in action and the eldest brother who served in the Camel Corps returned to Australia.
