Smith, George Edward
Born Durham England but living in Nabowla Tasmania and working as a storekeeper he embarked Melbourne 13th April 1915 on board “HMAT Wiltshire” with the 1st Divisional Ammunition Column. He had applied three times to enlist but was rejected probably because of his age (he was 56 at the time of his death) he then offered his services in any capacity and was finally accepted. He was wounded on the Gallipoli Peninsula and transferred to Egypt where he died from his wounds 15th October 1915 and was buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
