Smith, James Willis
Born 1899 Wynyard Tasmania the son of James Albert and Amelia Smith (nee Greggs) a farm hand who embarked Melbourne on board “HMAT Nestor” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He died 17th May 1918 Sutton Veny Hospital England from Measles, Acute bronchitis and oedema of the lungs and was buried in the Sutton Veny (St John) Churchyard, United Kingdom. He was 18 years old when he died.Official intimation has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith; of Moorleah of the death of their younger son, Pte. James W. Smith who died in one of the English hospitals on May 17. The deceased, who was only 18 years of age had only been in England a few weeks. He left here on March 2. His only brother, who has seen 3 years' active service, went into camp again a few days ago, after spending a furlough of six weeks with his parents Much sympathy is felt with Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who are well-known in the district, and actively associate themselves with all patriotic movements.
