Studio portrait of 30792 Gunner (late Private) Edward Trevor Sorell, 25th Howitzer Brigade (later 8th Light Australian Trench Mortar Battery) of North Sydney, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata (A20) on 23 November 1916. On 26 September 1916, during operations at Polygon Wood, Belgium, he was wounded in action. Because of his wounds, he was moved to the 24th General Hospital, Etaples where he died on 24 November 1917, aged 22. He is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.

On Friday evening the Rev H N Baker had the painful duty of conveying to Mr and Mrs H P Sorell Abbott Street Launceston the sad news that their eldest son Edward Trevor had died in France on November 24th in consequence of serious wounds received by him on September 23rd last. Gunner Sorell, who was 22 years of age at the time of his death joined the Launceston branch of the Bank of New South Wales on leaving school and later transferred to Devonport branch.  At the date of his enlistment he was a member of the N.S.W staff and located at North Sydney.
