Spinks, George Henry
Born 1891 Ulverstone Tasmania the son of Charles and Rachel Spinks (nee Ling) he embarked Melbourne 29th March 1916 on board RMS Orontes with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was serving with the 52nd Battalion when he was killed in action 3rd September 1916 at Moquet Farm in France and is commemorated in the Courcelette British Cemetery, France.
Rev. W. T. Abbott had to convey to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Spinks the sad news that their son Pte. George H. Spinks (previously reported missing) was now reported killed in action on September 4. 1916. Pte. Spinks was associated with his brother in a baking business in Carmantown, Penguin. He was an active worker in the local Methodist Church, and his fine character made him an influence for good amongst his fellows. Much sympathy is expressed them locally, who after months of anxious waiting, have received the saddest news. North Western Advocate 22nd May 1917
