Steel, Gordon Malcolm

 

 

Born 23rd January 1893 St Helens Tasmania to Percy and Jessie Steel (nee Johnstone) a

miner who embarked Melbourne 22nd December 1914 on board “HMAT Ceramic” with the 15th Infantry Battalion

 

He was killed 7th August 1916 by a sniper when bringing in a wounded mate from no man’s land – something he volunteered for.

 He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France
