Stewart, Charles John

 

 

 

Born 3rd May 1875 Grass Tree Hill Tasmania the son of William and Sophia Stewart (nee Honeymoon) and married to Violet Elizabeth Dove a ferryman he embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.

 

He was killed in action 7th June 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated in the Messines Ridge British Cemetery, Messines, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium

Mrs. Chas. Stewart of Lindisfarne has been officially informed that her husband, Private Charles John Stewart, was killed in action in France on the 7th June. He will be remembered as one of the Stewart Bros., the well known oarsmen of a few years ago. He was a quiet, unassuming young man, and respected by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow and two children.
